More Ranting on Discrimination May 12, 2008

Well, people, I had a really good topic for today, but something set me off, and that topic will have to wait until tomorrow. I know, I’m sorry to keep you guys in suspense.
I was at clarinet lessons today, and one of the cashiers at the store I get lessons at was telling some weird story. And this came up: “He was total trash. Sagging, tattoos… Yeah! Tattoos! Trash!” And I was on the verge of socking him. WHY?? I mean, I dislike sagging. That’s something we don’t need to see… your underwear. But tattoos? Why does that make him trashy? It’s how that person chooses to express themselves!! There is no correlation between ink on skin and trashiness. That person was unjustly discriminating against a person. Maybe the guy was a jerk! But if so, he would’ve said: “Total trash.. He was such a jerk.”, not about the tattoos first! So maybe the guy wasn’t a jerk! Then you can’t comment on his personality/status based solely on his EXPRESSION! I don’t see discriminating against people for dying their hair purple! Same concept! And, if you do, shame on you! It’s how one expresses themselves. There should be nothing wrong with it, but modern society shuns it. It is disgraceful.
Rant over. It was coincidental that the person said this the day after I had blogged about it. Honestly, it is sickening.
Whoa whoa whoa. Hold it. I NEVER said ANYTHING about discriminating against a person just because they have tattoos. And I NEVER said it had any effect on their personality. So I still stand by my word when I say that I think tattoos are low class and trashy. The TATTOOS are trashy. NOT the person. Got it?
First of all, I wasn’t talking about you. And why are tattoos trashy? I mean, I don’t have any, but I respect anyone’s decision to express themselves in that way.
